Falconry
At Fritton Lake we are dedicated to upholding the ancient traditions
of falconry. The sport of falconry has a long heritage in the British
Isles but modern techniques and equipment designs enable us to work
our hawks and falcons in the best way possible. Some of the aspects
of falconry are included in our displays where falcons can be seen
stooping to the lure – a valuable part of a young falcon’s
training.
Education
Our displays throughout the season enable us to both entertain and
educate the public about the life and ecology of birds of prey.
We also raise awareness to current issues effecting raptor and owl
conservation and encourage public involvement through the Raptor
Trust owl-box leaflets available at the centre.
Offering our birds the best quality of
life
All of the birds of prey who live and work at the centre enjoy an
excellent quality of life. Our care team ensure that all of the
weatherings and aviaries are cleaned daily and disinfected to keep
disease at bay. Additionally the birds are kept in tip-top condition
through a carefully selected diet supplemented with the best avian
vitamins available; water is always provided for bathing and drinking.
Captive Breeding
From time-to-time a few of our birds are withdrawn from display
work to allow them to breed. This may take place on-site and at
Fritton Lake Falconry we have incubators to maximise success rate.
