The Goshawk is a large
hawk which favours deciduous woodland, although it is learning to
adapt to the manmade conifer plantations which are commonly found
throughout its range. True hawks are characterised by their short
wings and long tail which make them highly manoeuvrable and the
Goshawk is no exception. In fact the Goshawk is superbly designed
for chasing prey through dense woodland. Typical prey includes small-medium
sized birds and mammals which it will pursue with aggression and
perseverance. These traits make it one of the best birds of prey
for hunting with, however its difficult temperament and being prone
to fits make it suitable for highly experienced falconers only.
