The Merlin is our smallest
bird of prey at the centre and is the smallest falcon found in the
British Isles. They can be remarkably brave birds and commonly take
prey as large if not larger than itself. They are an aggressive
hunter of small birds such as larks and pipits and will often engage
in rapid agile chases in pursuit of their prey. They often launch
themselves into small flocks of birds targeting weak individuals
for an easy meal.
